We picked up the "No Cry Sleep Solution" at Borders.
I read all 181 pages in one day. Not even at work. That's how desperate I was. Am. Is. Are.
Ok, pretty reasonable. Many things we were doing. Consistant is important. We can do this.
First step, log a day of sleep. Naps, prebed routine, night wakings. No problem. We're on it.
That was yesterday. We tried. We really did. It was awesome.
Especially the part where at one am he perked up in bed and was like "Let's play!".
*sigh* Yeah. Last night was awesome.
*thud*
Someone I talked to today was like "Our kid cried for four hours several days in a row. Whatever. It was worth it."
I don't think I'm there yet.
Yet.

Sleep Training, Redux, Part I
Ok. Did I blog this before? Who knows. Not me. I'm in a fog of the partially rested.
Many moons ago, when Zachary was barely a sprout, we "sleep trained". Ha. I say sleep trained. I mean... we sort of managed to get him to fall asleep in his crib. Ish. Or something. There was a little "crying it out", but it was nothing. Like, four minutes of him saying "i'm tired, yo!" quietly, really, when I look back on it. Anyway, he fell asleep nursing, he'd settle in his crib, and sometimes after a top up when we went to bed he'd go back to his crib. Sometimes he'd stay with us. We were, mostly, getting ok sleep. We might get a little fussy night around teething or something. But fine.
We travelled and travelled and travelled. See below.
Zachary mostly slept with us because its easy. Plan and simple. Easy peasy. And we were asking a lot of him, with the running around, and all the new people, and the time zones. No probs. We'd settle down when we returned to normal.
Sleeping sucks.
He is only taking naps with company. He is pretty much only nursing to sleep. And if we miss the small window of sleepiness, he gets a second wind. Except like a drunk person. There is staggering. On everyone's part. And he's waking up in our bed to.. Kick. And Fart. And nurse. and fart some more.
I may not be entirely responsible for my actions at this point.
Vingettes to follow.

Where A Boy Discovers that Sleep Has Many Shapes
Up until yesterday, Zachary was a still sleeper.
This is a little bit of a lie. He sort of wiggled. But he never *moved*. He always slept on his back and stayed where we put him. All these stories of children who throw off all their blankets and by the time everyone wakes up you find the baby in the bathtub? Oh yeah, I smirked. My baby could be asleep atop the cat tree and he WOULD BE THERE IN THE MORNING. And I wouldn't even lose sleep. Yup. Our baby, that hasn't stopped moving in 14 months? Sleeps like a still little angel. Ha.
Ha.
Ha.
I put him down for a nap on the bed yesterday, and seeing as the bed is much safer than the cat tree, I didn't put pillows next to him. We usually do, as a sort of nod to parental safety because you always hear those stories and don't want to be the dumb ones.
Ha.
I hear him make some little noise and think "Aw, I'll go look at his cute sleepy face".
His cute sleepy face had rolled all the way to the edge of the bed where he was now executing a precrawl pushup. In his sleep. On the edge of our bed.
Sorry, was that not clear? ON THE EDGE OF THE BED.
I almost died. Ok, really I scooped him up and fed him a little and then when Mark got home said "HE CAN NEVER EVER SLEEP ANYWHERE BUT IN A BOX. ON THE FLOOR. A BOX WITH PADDED WALLS AND A PADDED FLOOR. ON A SOFT FLOOR."
:D
Ok, I didn't say that. But I did count my lucky parental stars.
And now he's sound asleep in his crib, where he has flipped over and wriggled all the way to the corner and wriggled his hand through the bars. It is a whole new world.

Simcha Purim!
Whoohoo! Purimtastic. Well, first it was scary (Leora wolfwhistled, and he thought the sky was falling). But once he got a snack he boogied down with the best of them. We rocked out to ShirLaLa, went upstairs to hear the megillah read by the silly clergy, danced in circles and then... collapsed. Well, Zachary first. We had to get him home. Now we're just laying on the floor and eating hamentaschen. Mmm.. apricot hamentaschen. Best stuff ever. He can have some next year. Till then, they're allll mine......

But wait, there's more!
1) You should check out the sheep. No joke. If you go to the pictures, you will see the cutest baby goats in all of the world. If we could fit a goat in the apartment... they could sleep in the bath tub, right? Or the way things are going, by the end of the night, they'd be on the bed along with eveeeeeryone else. Ha.
2) Zachary is officially sleeping in his crib. The co-sleeper is detached. We probably would have left him in the co-sleeper longer, but he's actually so giant that his elbows hit both sides. It seemed like it was probably time, before it collapsed from his weight. That giant car seat suddenly seems like it was definitely the right choice. Since otherwise, at 4 months, our darling boy would have outgrown it already. Oy.
