Catching up

Here's a video from our time in California. Z was just starting to walk. Now he's quite deliberate and running about crashing into furniture. Mark wants me to clarify that he is not actually running but just falling forwards quickly while moving his feet. We'll try and catch it this weekend...

Blocks in Hat

Zachary is an unconventional user of the birthday hat, but we're hoping through desensitization that he'll end up wearing it long enough (awake) for us to get a picture.

walkering

It has been one week since Zachary noticed what the blue walker was for. Since then, Zachary has discovered the stroller and crawls over to it, past the shoes, past the cat food, past the cat water (astounding, since usually the cat water alone has irresistable mess potential). All the practicing is paying off. He is clearly improving, and this morning he tried walking his hands up to his toes to get to standing sans leaning post. He failed and ended up on his bum on the floor, but the time when he won't is rapidly approaching.

And playing with the washing machine, in england. I just love that everytime it stops he looks away only to be drawn back in as soon as it spins again. Sorry I put the camera around the wrong way again.

England Augments Z-Skills

That's right in the series of videos (coming soon) you'll see all of the mad skills Zachary has gained.
Leaving France Taxi, Plane, Train London...yay tube (the second underground system of the trip) and friends and rest :-) Zachary got to our hotel room and while awaiting the penulitamate dr who, Zachary decided to try out crawling with knees. He'd been going around on his belly in an army-crawl for a few weeks before we left new york. Not only did he crawl to the bin but then he decided to reverse into sitting. In his mind there was no going back, he hasn't stopped moving since. Tube, Train, Plane, and YAY, we reach Granny and Grandpa Cornwall's house. And Zachary has found that crawling to shelves, tables or chairs can help himself to pull up to standing, and the new favourite game, squat, stand, squat, stand. The sitting it turns out is a great way to check for the best location to go standing, surveying the room before setting off in a now quite speedy crawl.
The standing has even spurred him onto great feats, he has become so steady on his feet (oh and we got cute blue dino shoes btw)that now he has started to cruise along the table or when holding fingers will actually walk several steps before collapsing in a heap of exhaustion, from both physical and mental excersion.
Also expect new teeth!

Zachary's New Trick

It is called "Pull up on the couch to try and eat mommy's computer"

Ok, not a snappy name. But let me tell you, our plan this weekend was to do a heavy second babyproofing sweep (everything waist height down pretty much needs to be baby safe or away) and this just reinforced the urgency.

I was brushing my teeth and we were getting ready to head to school and usually he's content spinning on his belly for the thirty seconds I was out of the room. Hahahahaha... Man, this will not get better until he goes away to college, will it?

Today was packed full of fun. First stop, the swimming pool! This is the first time Zachary has been in big water. He had lots of fun. Mark did not drop him. These are all important things. The water is pretty chlorine-y, but everyone came home and had a bath so it was ok.

Gotta love this action shot. A video to follow tomorrow. Mostly I love that he looks a little bit like a dog hanging its head out of a car window. He hangs on to Mark's hair and steers. I spend the entire video laughing like a hamster.

Toes are tasty (and other miscellany)

Yummy yummy, baby toes in his tummy.
Zachary has been on a mission for the last several days (due to a raging teething discomfort) to bite and chew EVERYTHING. Really, everything. He chews on the straps of his carrier. He chews on every finger of every person he encounters. He would chew on the cats, but they have the sense to move more quickly than he does. And this evening? This evening he discovered his toes.
He's known about them, of course. And he pulls on them in this crazy almost yoga like stretch pretty regularly. But today after his bath I turned to pick up a wipe, turned back, and his toes were right in his mouth. He kept popping them in and out like "Oooh, what are these? Where did they...?!?!?! Oops, there they are!" and then grinning.
So sorry if he has less toes next time you see them. Apparently all our nibbling has taught him a dangerous lesson.

Zachary was having some high quality blankie time this afternoon. He's chilled out from his jabs, but still a little out of sorts. He's been spending a lot of time on his side? Because he can get there. We've been hanging toys for him to reach at. And I was wandering around trying to get a few things done. I look over, and he's allllllmost managed to flip from his back to his tummy. I told myself he would have made it, but he sorta ran into the rocker (the blue & red thing in this picture). I moved the rocker, and he finished the flip, and I took a picture because I was like "Well, that is *really* close do doing it on your own...."

And then after he started fussing I put him back on his back with a toy. And went back to messing about. And the next thing I knew....

Super Wednesday (Warning, Nekkid)

Seriously. Zachary has been a little out of sorts lately, and we just weren't sure what was up. Turns out? He was apparently saving up.




We've been trying naked tummy time on the suggestion of a friend. Turns out totally the right choice. After he did his tummy to back trick he managed one from back to front (he was hunting the octopus toy). I suspect that it'll be a little while before it gets regular but... whoo!
